In 2011 Smith & Wesson re-introduced the Model 15 (15-10) under their Classics Revolvers line, newly machined, with a shrouded redesigned barrel, and a built-in trigger lock (located just above the cylinder release thumbpiece on the left side). Production of the Model 15 was discontinued in 1999 when Smith & Wesson was purchased and reorganized, although a couple limited run “Heritage Series” models were released in 20. The Model 15 was a popular sidearm for law enforcement and was the standard issue sidearm of the U.S. In 1997 the hammer and internal lockworks were modified from an on-the-hammer firing pin / internal hammer block to a floating firing pin / MIM flat hammer / transfer bar safety design. In 1972 S&W released a stainless steel version as the Model 67. Over the years the Model 15 has been produced with several barrel lengths, with 4" (standard) and 2" (1964–1988) being the most common. From ten yards, getting 2” groupings is a breeze. It’s easy to focus on your target using the front gold bead sight, which contributes to its superb accuracy. The 625 comes with a gold bead interchangeable front sight and a black rear sight that’s adjustable for both elevation and windage.
The excellent sight system further aids in accuracy. However, the fully underlugged barrel makes up for the grip in terms of mitigating muzzle flip and increasing accuracy. The smooth and rounded wooden grip is comfortable to hold, although some extra checkering would be nice for better stabilization and recoil management. The 625’s barrel, cylinder, and frame are all crafted with quality, bead-blasted stainless steel. It’s incredibly accurate, easy to reload, and perfect for uses from competition to self-defense. Smith & Wesson is known for crafting incredibly high-quality revolvers, and the Model 625 is, in my opinion, one of their best.
